“We heard about Puryear Pools from a friend that had previously built a pool with them… Our custom design was a 38-foot play pool with an in-grounded spa (see pics). “It’s almost summer…my oasis is almost ready! 🙂 Just wanted to post my experience and recent activity with Puryear Pools. First off – I just want to say Thank you to Tom, Scott, John and RED for an awesome process in designing, building and overall customer service with my pool. I had an empty back yard with mounds of dog poo everywhere…Tom came out and took some photos and measurements and, in a week, came back with the most perfect 3D design for my backyard oasis getaway! Since it was built (Sept 2016) – a lot of dirt/sand/debris collected in the bottom…but I chatted with my construction guy Scott who referred me to John and on a Saturday John called and walked me thru setting up my pump so it could get the best suction available. After a few hours, I had all the mess cleaned and even took apart the filter to give it it’s 3rd cleaning. Really appreciate the customer service John and his team showed to help me through this. “We recently used Puryear Pools to renovate our swimming pool and make some design changes to it. I requested information online and soon after received a phone call from John and we set up an appointment on a weekend which was best for us. We were undecided on some of the design so we met with him at the office on a Sunday and he went over everything. We were very impressed with how much effort John made to accommodate our schedule so we didn’t reach out to other companies for a quote because he is customer focused 100%.

I had some questions about my landscaping I thought was related to the remodel. I talked to John and the manager and they scheduled a time to come over immediately. They listened to all my concerns and then as kindly as possible pointed out what the real issue was. They emailed all the information I needed to know how to address each of my concerns.

“Puryear built the pool that came with the house that I bought. I’ve used them for weekly/quarterly maintenance for about 6 months now. It’s great to know that everything is taken care of and I know that they’ve been here because they leave a card documenting the chemical levels and what was done.

Recently, I had a problem with the spa/pool heater (not working and leaking water). I discovered it after-hours (of course) but called and left a message. “We decided to build a pool early in the year. We are first time pool owners so the decision was not taken lightly. We did our research and asked around for referrals. I reviewed Puryear’s website and I like the fact that 1) they give you ballpark price ranges and 2) they give you an overview of the process. One of our friends also recommended Puryear. We decided to have a consultation. Derek, our representative, was the best! He was very accommodating and explained all of the options. He designed a pool that maximized our yard and incorporated the features we wanted. We received a computer-generated drawing of the pool from all angles. Derek provides documentation for the HOA approval and bank financing processes. We were pleasantly surprised with the cost estimate. We called other pool companies and they were more expensive. When construction started, we were nervous, but our construction manager, Guy, kept us informed every day. Anytime we had a question, Guy responded promptly. The workmanship is beautiful. “After much consideration and meeting with various contractors we opted to work with Puryear Custom Pools to build our backyard oasis so my wife would be close to water. Never being a pool owner – I knew very little about pools until I started inquiring with several other pool builders. I found in working with Brian Drake that Puryear includes more things in their standard pools that others list as upgrades.

I know I must have made about 10 change orders even up until the last week or so of the build and Puryear was the most accommodating. The price they quoted for the pool was the exact price we paid – not a single upcharge.

After construction began – they took into consideration several factors such as running a drain all the way around the house as opposed to digging under our paverstone drive way to avoid potential problems in the future. I know that was costly – but having them absorb that expense to ensure I didn’t have problems with the driveway in the future was exceptional.

Mickey was my main contact from the initial inspection to the final sweeping of the deck. Mickey kept me in the loop on timelines and even though we had some considerable rain – he maintained as close to the timeline as mother nature would allow.

We went with about 1100 SF of Cabridge Cobblestone Pavers for the decking and we were so glad we did. Gave the backyard decking some real character. Brian also assisted me with a design to maximize the size of the pool which was 82 perimeter feet 11,300 gallons to maximize the size of the pool, give it some character and maximize entertaining space.

Even with a pool in the yard – it looks considerably larger than it did prior with just grass and a small tree. Brian recommended some ideas for the pool design to include a raised rear beam that really made the pool stand outf.

We went with a light color Aquabright lifetime guarantee and upgraded on the pump. Even with the pump running 23 hours a day – we haven’t noticed an increase in our electric bill. Was well worth the small increase in cost for the better pump and the color of the Aquabright gives the pool a tropical look.

In addition to the having tight access to the yard Mickey and his crew only went a minimal amount into my neighbors properly. They had to use a bobcat to shuttle so I didn’t have to take down a mature live oak tree. Literally – the clearance was about 3 inches between the two sides.

If I would have known the process was so easy and they were so exceptional to work with – I would have put the pool in my yard six years ago. Highly recommend Puryear Pool for your backyard oasis!”

Competent, respectful, knowledgeable, and hardworking, sometimes staying well into the evening to get the job done. Our pool is beautiful (just as depicted in our design sketches), and an endless source of pleasure!!!

I am writing this review 3 years later, because Puryear Pools just finished the repair of our pool. Soon after the completion of our pool, the ground shifted and our pool “dropped” (not uncommon with the clay ground in this area). Although our pool “dropped” it remained structurally sound, a testament to the quality of workmanship. We were told we needed to wait to make sure the ground had stopped “moving” (numerous tests were performed to ensure the integrity of the pool and plumbing). We were still able to use and enjoy our pool during this time. Once it was determined there was no more movement in the pool the restoration took place. Again, every crew that came through to do this correction was amazing!

The honesty and integrity shown by this company makes us glad we chose to build our pool with Puryear Custom Pools! We truly feel they went above and beyond!!!!”

“Puryear Pools was chosen to do our pool in 2010, after a thorough search through eight other local pool companies. The building process went smoothly, and the pool looked fantastic. We had arbors built at the same time by a Puryear contractor, and they also turned out excellent. Communication was good throughout the process and we were extremely pleased.

In 2011, we experienced a long stretch of freezing weather (12 degrees for days) and the coping around the pool began to chip off once the weather improved. The owner of Puryear Pools came out and was extremely concerned since the materials were sold as “weatherproof.” My first thought was “Okay, here comes trouble!!” But after talking to the coping company, Puryear came back out and replaced all of it. Problem solved.

In 2012, we had Puryear come back to add a wired display controller unit inside our house. Almost immediately, we began having issues with the display—sometimes it would flicker, sometimes it wouldn’t respond, sometimes it would be completely dead. When Puryear was initially unable to figure out what was wrong, they brought the manufacturer’s repair people out to try to determine the issue. Even they couldn’t. I was in constant contact with both the office manager at Puryear and the service manager during this time, and both were excellent to work with. They both assured me that they would figure this out and I would be happy with the result. Eventually, a Puryear service rep found the issue and it now works great. Problem solved.

In late 2013, I opted to add the iPhone link to our pool system and I contacted Puryear to do this. It worked for about 24 hours and then went dead. I began to wonder if I was just jinxed. But Puryear’s service team quickly found the problem, replaced the unit with a new one, and it has worked perfectly since.

The point of my telling about the various pool issues is that Puryear has ALWAYS come through with service after the sale. Several neighbors used other pool builders for their pools, and I’ve heard nothing but complaints about service problems and these other pool companies either disappearing or not responding. I have not had that issue with Puryear.

While I would certainly prefer not to have any service problems ever, real life gets in the way of that. Knowing that the company that built my pool and sold me the equipment will respond to my emails & phone calls quickly has made a huge difference.

I highly recommend this company for anyone wanting to build a pool. They absolutely build a beautiful pool! But it’s easy to get caught up in the sales process with pool builders–picking designs, colors, etc—so please keep in mind that whatever you build will ultimately need some type of service. And after 4 years, Puryear is still helping to make my pool experience the best possible. I couldn’t ask for more.

If I move and build another pool, I will go to Puryear again. And not many pool owners I know will say they would use the same builder again.

“I would have to say that if you are planning to build a backyard oasis look no further. Our experience was nothing short of amazing. From day one of the planning when Brandon came out and was excited to do our design, which I must say he nailed it! To the construction, which was handled by James Antonio, we were always kept up to date with what was happening and when it was going to take place. I was home most of the time during the build, so I was able to witness most of the work that took place, and I must say that it was top notch. The workers that came out were genuinely happy to be there and the quality of work showed their happiness.

It isn’t very often that you get to hear from an owner of a company, but they called us every week to see how things were going. You just don’t see that level of service from too many companies these days.

“Puryear built our pool and did a great job – Our yard was a mess and it had a huge drop off and we were not sure how we would make it work. When we first met with Billy Sullivan, he drew a design that we liked but just didn’t think it would work for our needs. So, he went back and came up with a new idea and the outcome is absolutely STUNNING!!! He listened to what I wanted and made it happen. So happy…. Thank You Billy!!!!!

Kenny and his guys did an awesome job of communicating each step and what was coming up the next day. All the crews worked so hard and through some of the hottest days of the year and still did an AMAZING job. They were very nice and respectful of our property.
You started digging our pool on August 4th and I was able to swim on September 6th – Now that’s fast. Everything seemed to go smoothly.

The guys that did the rock work were OUTSTANDING – it is a true art form to take a pile of rubble and make it into a masterpiece, they also wanted to make sure it was beautiful and what we wanted.

We also had landscaping done from Vivid – Regina and Brian are great to work with. They had our sprinkler system up and running and sod laid in our whole back yard (and some of the front) in 2 Days – INCREDIBLE.

Brandon Cooper, our design consultant, was very pleasant to work with. He was able to meet our expectations by designing a great pool based on our needs and desires. James Antonio, the on-site project manager, was extremely committed to address any construction issues and was very helpful answering all of our questions throughout the building process. During Pool School, Abel Rubio did a great job explaining the features of the filtration system, as well as how to maintain its components and how to appropriately monitor the chemical levels in the water. Both, James and Able, continue to make themselves available to answer any questions I might have.

“A REAL snowstorm for the first time in ten years? Sounded kind of exciting until the power went out. A rolling black out wasn’t a big deal, but as the hours ticked by and we helplessly watched our pool freeze over, we became concerned about the extent and the price tag of the damage. One of the things that made us feel better was Puryear posting tips on Facebook and emailing suggestions. We decided to reach out to them and request a repair appointment, conveniently available online. Two days later (days, not business days), we had already heard from them with a repair date and time.
